Super Pocket Atari and Technos editions confirmed
These consoles boast 65 titles between them, covering arcade and home console platforms.
Hello!
RetroGamerBase has completed its transition to a newsletter, published twice weekly. In each edition, you’ll find a collection of retro gaming news and talking points, along with the odd review and guide.
One thing I wanted to change with this newsletter, compared with the old blog, was to make it more personal. While there will be contributions from other writers, this newsletter will present a more opinionated RetroGamerBase than you may be used to…
It would be amazing if you could share the newsletter with your friends, across social media, and beyond, and help us to reach as large a readership as possible.
Right, let’s get on with it.

Super Pocket Atari and Technos handhelds
Blaze Entertainment’s Hyper Mega Tech has confirmed the upcoming release of two new pocket-sized handhelds. The 2024 Super Pocket devices come in Atari and Technos editions.
In addition, a special Atari edition in “wood finish” has is being issued by Funstock. Limited to 2600 devices, this version has already sold out.
These handhelds feature pre-installed games by the respective license holders, and are capable of running Evercade cartridges.

Super Pocket forever?
While Evercade is busy refreshing its EXP and VS lines (see below) to deal with associated licenses, the Super Pocket is intentionally limited. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see many more Super Pocket handhelds, especially since the special edition of the Atari model has already sold out.
Other retro license holders are no doubt watching with interest. In fact, given we’re regularly told that Blaze is busy chatting with potential partners, it is quite possible that these devices, rather than the VS and EXP, are the future of the Evercade line.
Evercade revises release schedule…again
In other Evercade news, the retro gaming curator has confirmed that a quartet of previously-announced hardware and collections are being delayed.
The Evercade VS-R and EXP-R, the Tomb Raider Collection 1, and the Thalamus Collection 1, will now be released on August 30th. That’s a one month delay, which means you can essentially expect these items in September.
Says Evercade:
These changes are due to an unforeseen production delay and a subsequent shipping delay in transit that has forced us to move our planned release date.
This news affects all orders of these consoles and games. But if you’re an Evercade fan, you probably know this already, as it isn’t the first time this sort of thing has happened.
In fact, the people at Blaze Entertainment seem pretty terrible at planning release dates. By my estimation, 50% of its hardware is later than planned, with around 30% of the cartridge releases over the past 2 years experiencing some form of delay.
The cynical among us might posit that the reason isn’t due to transit, but rather hitting a nicer figure in the final quarter of 2024.
But we’re not cynical - just disappointed.

Retroid Pocket 3+ review
Yes, this is a handheld from 2023, but for some reason I’ve only just reviewed it. To summarise, it’s a versatile, portable retro gaming system that I really liked. it doesn’t handle absolutely everything, and despite the software keyboard, old C64, Spectrum, and other old school titles with keyboard input suffer.
For a retro console and arcade experience, however, the Retro Pocket 3+ is superb.
Game Over
